With deep roots in for-profit, nonprofit and public service environments—through radio and television broadcasting, copywriting, e-commerce and emergency incident management—perhaps I am best described as a communications creative. Whatever I find myself doing, my avenues of creativity are always about arresting and engaging audiences through powerful, compelling content. With my expert-level AP Style writing and editing skills, colleagues have described me as having a meticulous eye for copywriting voice and impeccable proofreading skills. The creative energy I bring to my leadership, team collaborations and solo projects compels positive, impactful change.
A few of my career highlights include:
• 4 years Copywriter for a national outdoors retailer creating and editing high-quality web content across digital hubs and social marketing platforms, utilizing AP Style and best SEO practices
• MFA-Writing/Nonfiction, BA-English/Literature, and published author of essays, blogs and articles for nationally syndicated print and online magazines
• Certified Public Information Officer (PIOF)/US Forest Service, collaborating, writing. editing, proofreading and disseminating information for emergency incident management teams
• 45 semester credit-hours Adjunct Instructor for Undergraduate Mass Communications courses, Black Hills State University
• 12 years announcer and 8 years Program Director for regional FM radio station in the upper-midwest, strategizing, planning and directing all station activities, including production, branding, marketing and promotional efforts
• 4 years Director of Promotions for MontanaPBS, directing, collaborating, writing, editing and supervising production teams to produce award winning promotional and programming content for a state-wide public television network
When I’m not focused on my work, you can find me pushing my limits at gym workouts, painting with acrylics on canvas, playing the guitar, weeding my garden, hitting the singletrack on mountain bike, fly fishing with my hand-tied flies and loving a life of movement in the wild. My wife, Cyndi, and I have raised our two children to adulthood and currently live in the Black Hills of western South Dakota.
